Have you been invited to a destination wedding? Destination weddings are so romantic and exciting. There are now so many places to hold the perfect destination wedding. Brides and grooms invite their friends and family to join them in some exotic location for the wedding reception and ceremony. It is like taking a mini vacation and attending a wedding all in one! Many wedding guests love a destination wedding, when else do you get the chance to go on vacation with all of your friends and family? Destination weddings are fun and unique. But there are some things to keep in mind to make your trip the best it can be.

When you are invited to a destination wedding, check with your physician about any immunizations that you may need. Some foreign locations will require that you have immunizations or booster shots. It is important to stay up-to-date and get these shots on time, because if you don’t have your shots – they won’t let you on the airplane or the cruise ship. So the minute you are invited to a destination wedding, make an appointment with your physician.

While at your physician’s make sure you have prescriptions for all of your current medications. Get the prescriptions filled before you leave and carry medication with you just in case you need it. This will be far easier than finding a physician in a foreign country. Fortunately the places that have tourists traditionally have a doctor familiar with Western medicine, but there are times your medicine is unavailable – and you may need to take a different type of medication. Don’t play this game of Russian roulette with your health. Carry any medication that you need.

Get your passport updated as soon as possible. Get any other documentation that you might need to enter or leave a country done as soon as possible. Make a copy of this documentation and carry it in your suitcase. This way if someone takes your wallet or your purse – you will have a copy to show the U.S. Embassy in the country you are in to get an easy replacement.

Get familiar with the customs of the country you are going to. No, you don’t have to plan on becoming so accustomed to everything that you would live there – but understanding a country’s customs are very valuable to your having a great stay. You will be a more confident traveler and you will have a much better time at the destination wedding if you understand the customs.

Destination weddings can be fun, romantic and a wonderful way to see a different part of the world. Have a lovely time at the destination wedding!
